Veterans' Service Office

Overview
Hood River County Veterans’ Service Office (HRCVSO) provides a variety of services to Veterans and their families including widows and dependents. The County’s Veteran Service Officer (CVSO) helps Veterans and their families navigate the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), the Oregon Department of Veteran Affairs (ODVA), and other Veteran resources. The office can help Veterans gather the information necessary to file claims, assist with filing claims, and tracking claims through the DVA system. If necessary, the office will also help with filing appeals for denied claims.

The CVSO predominately works with veterans to submit claims for: medical, housing loans, education, disability compensation, war widow pensions, and widows’ compensation. Secondary tasks include outreach, attending Veterans’ events, providing presentations to local veteran's groups and care providers, and on-going training.

The following is a partial list of documents that are needed for a majority of claims. The Veteran Service Officer will inform you if other documentation is required. Please bring all relevant documents to your scheduled appointment:

  • DD-214, Discharge Papers & Separation Documents
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Spouse and/or Dependent Birth Certificate
  • Death Certificate
  • Medicare/Medicaid Information
  • Income Verification
  • Medical Records
  • Veteran's Administration correspondence or letters
  • Any other pertinent documentation relevant to your case
